The cuticle protects the nail root from bacteria. Instead of cutting the cuticle, push it back gently with a rosewood stick or rubber-tipped cuticle-pusher. However, should the cuticle be hard and dry and sticking up, slightly trimming it is justifiable, but never remove the whole thing. Strong cuticle growth can be controlled with a cuticle softener or cuticle remover liquid.Keep your nails out of your mouth! Biting nails can damage the nail and the cuticle leading to a deformed nail shape or uneven nail growth. You can also transfer harmful organisms to the nail that lead to infe- ction or even increase one's chance of catching a cold or flu.
DON'T file backwards and forwards as this can cause splits in the nails which become even worse if water penetrates after hand washing. Rather use a gentle one way stroking action with the file along with a little patience.

One of the simplest ways to fingernail care is through a well-planned and balanced diet. The right kind of foods added in your regular diet can easily bring a healthy glow to you fingernails and enhance your overall appearance. However, it is important to remember that nails are made of keratin (a hard protein), which enables the nails to protect your fingers and toes from injuries. Similar to hair and skin, negligence and poor diet may reflect in weak and brittle nails, leading to ugly looking hands.so nails care is  very important. While some nails benefit from not using polish, mine seem to love the stuff. If they are polished, I seem to notice them more and devote a little more attention to them.
They really seem to like that.Keep emery boards everywhere. The worse thing that can happen to pretty nails is a snag and your teeth.Plan ahead. Paint your nails about an hour before bedtime, leaving the messy polish on. When taking a shower the next morning, the polish will soften and peel off. Any stubborn polish still left on the skin can easily be removed by rubbing it with a soft towel. Polish not dry yet? In a rush? Use a cotton swab and nail polish remover to do a quick removal. DON'T file the corners of the nail as this can weaken them and make them more susceptible to breaking. File straight across in a way that produces a soft, oval shape. Pointed nails break easilly

Clean Nails:
Be sure that nails are clean and dry, free of any oil or lotion, before applying polish. Remove any old polish from nails.

Basic Nail Care

  • Wash hands with mild soap, using a nailbrush.
  • Soak the hands in warm water for a few minutes to soften the cuticles (the bits of skin at the bottom of the nails).
  • Very gently push back the cuticles if they are long and ragged.
  • Trim the nails to the same length, cutting off any snaggy or spiky bits.
  • File the ends of the nails to smooth them off.
  • If your hands are dry, apply some hand cream (it doesn't have to be the girly stuff that stinks of flowers, lads).
